Email Reflector Listserv

Key Facts and How to Use the Reflector

Reflector Use Guidelines

What is the Reflector ?

red line

Here are some guidelines for using the reflector.  There seems to be some concern about this process. The Reflector is simply and email list that goes out to our total organization. Highlights:

1.       If  you are an OMUG member, and receiving this email, you are on our Reflector. All you  need to do, if you want to ask a question or make an announcement is send an email to reflector@olymug.org

2.       The email will go out to everyone else who is on the reflector, plus have your email address.

3.       When you want to respond to an  email, hit reply. You will see the email address of the person who sent the email, plus the reflector address.

4.       You need only respond to  one email…if you wish…the person who wrote the email, OR the whole reflector.

5.       Not every reflector message needs a response. Please just respond if you have something to add.

What is the Reflector ?
The Reflector is a way of communicating with other members of OMUG about topics related to your computer,  and to learn information about our meetings, programs an upcoming events.
Please when you send an email to The Reflector, the subject in the subject line. The listserv will put OMUG in the subject line. The address for the reflector is
reflector@olymug.org
The reflector is a great place to ask a computer related question, and is the one way we have of communicating with all members of OMUG to disseminate information about upcoming events and meetings.  The reply line will come back to you. If you want to send a response to the total reflector, then hit Reply to all. To just email the person who wrote the initial email, not the total list.
Please note that this FREE service is available only to active OMUG members. You may have your email address included in the OMUG email Reflector. Once subscribed, you send and email to reflector@olymug.org and your email will be mailed to a others on the reflector simultaneously.

The officers and SIG leaders also use this email list to keep all interested active members current on the latest happenings of the group.  Only OMUG computer related messages are relevant.  Many members use this for specific computer questions when they need help. This collective knowledge usually brings you several solutions to your question.

Reflector Use Guidelines

1. Please note, the OMUG Reflector is for members only.
2. Please sign your message, and keep your signature short. Include your email address so that folks can contact you personally.
3. Please use only text for your message, no fancy email. Some members use a simple, free dial up program, and cannot receive files. This also keeps the possibility of sending virus' to a minimum.
4. Please do not send a file of any type to the reflector as a whole.  Some email programs do not accept attachments. If you want to send a file to someone, send it to them specifically.
5. Please be respectful to others while using the reflector. If you have an 'issue' with something someone has written, correspond with them privately, not to the whole list. Look for their email in the signature, or in the addresses at the top of the email.
6. If you hit 'reply' your message will return to the person who posed the comments or question.  Folks do appreciate your suggestions if you are answering a question, so if you want to communicate with the whole list, hit reply to all, and the message will go out to everyone.
7. The purpose of the reflector is to share information about computers and computer use only.  Other issues are off topic. Email someone specifically if you wish to discuss something personal with them.
8. Please remember to send email changes to our database manager: treasurer@olymug.org
