GNU/Linux Special Interest Group
The Complete Concise History of GNU-Linux
Hello, this is Linus Torvalds and I pronounce "Linux" as "Linux"
Meet every Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm
Location:  The Computer Room
(2nd floor behind the boutique)
The Olympia Senior Center
222 Columbia ST NW
Olympia WA
SIG Leader: Paul Braget paulbraget@yahoo.com
Skill Level: Beginning to Advance methods (Such as security issues).
Objectives: Introducing beginners to GNU/Linux is fun, and having experts in the room really helps.
  Open Source Platform

  • GNU/Linux Live CD and install (Ubuntu Debian Distribution)

  • Other Live Linux Distributions may be demonstrated.

  • Gnome Desktop Environment

  • Gimp and other included Applications

  • Group input will always be a factor in future presentations.

We do our demonstrations using the "Point & Click" desktop interfaces common to the  GNU/Linux distributions such as Ubuntu, SUSE, Red Hat, etc.  You’ll feel right at home, and you may decide you can’t live without your own GNU/Linux machine. Or you can learn how to dual boot with Windows.  If you want to know more about the “innards” of GNU/Linux, someone can show you. Our goal is to have fun, learn more about GNU/Linux, and in the process learn to respect all operating systems.

The Open Source Initiative (OSI) is a California public benefit corporation, with 501(c)3 tax-exempt status, founded in 1998.

The OSI are the stewards of the Open Source Definition (OSD) and the community-recognized body for reviewing and approving licenses as OSD-conformant.

The OSI is actively involved in Open Source community-building and education. OSI Board members frequently travel the world to attend Open Source conferences and events, meet with open source developers and users, and to discuss with executives from the public and private sectors about how Open Source technologies, licenses, and models of development can provide economic and strategic advantages.
